NBC News reported on the 17th that hundreds of fake accounts using artificial intelligence and AI on social networking service X have systematically "posed as people" and spread articles in support of former U.S. President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Researchers at Clemson University in the U.S. reportedly identified such an organized network of at least 686 X accounts in a recently published research report.

Since January, more than 130,000 posts have been confirmed by these accounts on X.

The account's post was mainly about the four recent Senate races and presidential races in the United States, supporting former President Trump and the Republican Party.

Researchers at Clemson University explained that the accounts continued to communicate with other users using large language model (LLM) technology used in AI chatbots such as ChatGPT.According to the

report, the accounts showed a consistent pattern of putting up meme images, crosses, and U.S. flags enjoyed by far-right supporters as profile pictures and consistently replying to other people's posts on political issues.

There are few followers of these accounts, but they attracted attention by visiting posts that are already attracting attention among people and replying.

The researchers pointed out that although it is unclear who operates or funds the organized network of these AI accounts, the content of the post is focused on U.S. domestic politics and has no clear connection to foreign countries, suggesting that it may be a political operation by U.S. internal forces rather than foreign governments.

NBC analyzed that the possibility of the presence of operational forces in the United States using AI adds another concern to the rapidly developing AI technology in recent years and the chaotic information landscape that comes with it.
