According to a report by the Daily Mail on the 20th, Thomas TJ Hoover II (36) was taken to Baptiste Health Richmond Hospital in Kentucky in October 2021 due to an overdose, but was diagnosed with brain death.
Hoover woke up while medics were examining Hoover's heart condition to transplant his organs to others. As a result, the surgery was immediately canceled, but suspicions were raised that the hospital attempted to remove the patient for a long time while the patient was alive.
All hospital staff who were at the scene testified that Hoover struggled on the operating table with a horrified face as surgeons prepared for organ extraction and shed tears.
Hoover's sister Donna Laura also revealed that Hoover seemed to open her eyes and look around as she was being moved from the ICU to the operating room, but her family did not listen to her.
One of the hospital's former employees filed a letter to the U.S. House hearing, arguing that "more needs to be done to protect organ donors." However, Kentucky organ donation partners and hospitals completely denied the allegations and refuted them, saying, "We never extract organs from living patients."
Currently, Kentucky prosecutors and the U.S. Health and Medical Resources Agency (HRSA) are investigating the case.
