A group of famous American fashion designers were kicked out while visiting the Forbidden City, a Chinese tourist destination.

According to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP), Rick Owens, a famous American fashion designer, recently visited China's Forbidden City with acquaintances such as designer duo Pekal Matter and was asked to leave at the entrance.

If you look at the photos taken at the time, they have painted their faces all white or their lips and eyes black.

Forbidden City officials asked them to remove their makeup, change into normal clothes, and enter.

Pecal Matter complained on his SNS. "It's a humiliating and inhumane incident," he said, "I refused because styling symbolizes my identity." He expressed his displeasure, saying, "I felt like a criminal even though the security guard did nothing wrong when he let us go." "We will fight against those who want to control people and eliminate freedom of expression," he added.

In response, the Forbidden City said, "We do not impose any special sanctions on tourist attire," but added, "However, it is difficult to dress too much that can damage the image of (cultural heritage)."

Chinese netizens responded, "Just as they have the freedom to wear what they want, the Forbidden City has the freedom not to let them in," "No place will allow Chinese people to enter foreign churches in swimsuits," and "We must respect each other."

On the other hand, the Forbidden City, which was rejected, is the largest of the existing royal palace buildings and has been used as the palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties for about 500 years.
