"Open AI, Broadcom, TSMC, and AI chips made by ChatGPT"

2024.10.30 AM 07:40
ChatGPT developer OpenAI is working with U.S. semiconductor company Broadcom and Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor consignment producer, to develop its own artificial intelligence chips, Reuters reported.

OpenAI does not rely solely on AI chip leader Nvidia, but plans to develop its own chips with Broadcom and leave production to TSMC.

OpenAI has been looking at a range of options to diversify its chip supply and cut costs, and is reportedly planning to use AMD chips along with Nvidia chips to meet surging infrastructure demand.

OpenAI is known to be a major customer of Nvidia, and the decision to develop its own AI chips while using AMD chips is interpreted as a way to diversify chip supply.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who is trying to build an alliance to develop his own AI semiconductor, met with Samsung and SK during his visit to Korea in January and said he hopes to cooperate with AI chips.
