The United States says there is information that 8,000 North Korean soldiers are stationed in Russia's Kursk region, a battleground between Russia and Ukraine.
Robert Wood, the U.S. deputy chief of staff to the U.N., told a U.N. Security Council meeting in New York that the U.S. had intelligence suggesting there are currently 8,000 North Korean troops in Russia's Kursk region.
At the same time, Deputy Wood said he would ask the Russian representative very politely and asked if he still maintains that there are no North Korean soldiers in Russia.
Despite the U.S. question, the Russian representative who attended the Security Council meeting did not give a position on whether the North Korean military was stationed.
At a Security Council meeting the day before, Ukraine's ambassador to the United Nations said a total of 4,500 North Korean troops are expected to arrive at the Russian-Ukrainian border this week and participate directly in the battle against Ukrainian forces within November.
