In response to Iran's execution of dual German and Iranian citizens, the German government has decided to close all three Iranian consulates in the country.
The German Foreign Ministry made the announcement, saying it had repeatedly made clear to Iran that the execution of German citizens would have serious consequences.
As a result, 32 employees from the three Iranian consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich must leave Germany.
The Foreign Ministry added that diplomatic channels and embassies remain in place for Iranians who value freedom and democracy.
Iran arrested a dual German and Iranian citizen, Jomand Sharmahd, on terrorism charges in 2020 and executed him on the 28th of last month.
The German government has called for the death sentence to be revoked, saying Sharmach had not received a fair trial.
