U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has named former Portuguese ambassador George Glass as the U.S. ambassador to Japan.
"I'm happy to announce Glass as the U.S. ambassador next week," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on the 16th local time. "George, a former president of an investment bank, will use his business sense to his ambassador position."
"He will always put the United States first," he said.
Former Ambassador Glass, a former businessman, has long supported Trump and has been considered to have consistently checked China's advancement by serving as the Portuguese ambassador for four years since 2017.
