Qatar has reopened its embassy in Syria, where a rebel transitional government has been established, with the end of the civil war, AFP reported.
The Qatari embassy in Damascus, Syria, hung its flag on the 21st local time, AFP said, making it the second country to officially restart the embassy after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Qatar severed ties with Syria and supported rebels in 2011, the early days of the civil war, and has since opposed Syria's re-joining of the Arab League (AL) and reinstatement of former President al-Assad.
Turkiye was the first to restore the embassy after the fall of the al-Assad regime earlier this month.
Turkiye has been supporting rebel forces to keep the Kurdish separatist militant group the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in check.
Syria's transitional government has also started normalizing diplomatic relations, including the appointment of Assad Hasan al-Shibani as foreign minister.
Al-Shibani, who is 37 this year, is the man who led the rebel government's political unit in Syria's northwestern Idlib region, Reuters said.
