Ahead of Hangeul Day, fashion designer Lee Sang-bong, who used Hangul for design, appeared on the YTN cultural program "Culture Inside" (MC Park Min-seol) to tell the story of his fashion life.

Fashion designer Lee Sang-bong entered the broadcasting and entertainment department with a dream of acting, especially theater, but he had to leave the stage with the responsibility of the head of the household to take care of the family.

I didn't think of becoming a designer from the beginning, but I started repairing clothes for a living and my relationship with clothes began. When I was attending Seoul National University of Arts, I met the International Dressing Academy, which was on the way I passed every day, and I was immersed in making clothes day and night, thinking only about fashion.

Since he has focused only on fashion without watching newspapers and TV, he gradually became a designer, winning the 1983 Central Design Contest. Later in 1985, he took on the challenge of launching a dressing room named after him in Myeong-dong with only two employees. In the following 12 years, Lee Sang-bong, who stood out in the fashion world enough to hold an exhibition in Paris, created a fashion world with his own personality over the years.

Lee Sang-bong will have the opportunity to present a fashion show at the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. I tried to use Hangul in fashion because I wanted to show Korean beauty, but I faced great opposition from around me, including employees. Still, as always, Korean design is boldly applied to fashion with a spirit of challenge and will be introduced to the world. When his Hangeul fashion was unveiled, he received favorable reviews overseas for his "design that is nowhere else in the world."

Since then, Lee Sang-bong is not only using Hangul typeface in various ways, but is also expanding Hangul fashion by adding various Korean elements such as letters and dancheong.

Lee Sang-bong, who has recently been busy for the Hangeul Fashion Exhibition in Thailand, expects that such an era will come in fashion just as various Korean cultures such as music, dramas, and movies are popular worldwide.

A more detailed interview on Lee Sang-bong, a fashion designer who best fits Hangeul Day and has realized love of Hangeul through fashion for 20 years, can be found at YTN's Culture Interview.

The "Culture Interview," starring fashion designer Lee Sang-bong, is a segment of the news channel YTN (Saturday 9:20 a.m.) cultural program "Culture Inside," featuring actors Lee Jung-jae and Cho Jung-seok, singers Kim Yeon-ja, Lee Jeok and comedian Cho Hye-ryeon.
