Let's take a closer look at the weather conditions and experts. I will join the Anti-Sung YTN Disaster Advisory Committee. Welcome.

[Planar]
Hello,

[Anchor]
It's raining nationwide right now, but this rain is raining a lot for autumn?

[Planar]
That's right. If it's autumn rain, the weather is good in October, and even if it rains, it usually falls a little. It's raining a lot in October this year. In particular, it is raining a lot mainly on Jeju Island in the southern part of the country today. Currently, the southern coastal area, where a heavy rain warning is in place, is currently receiving a lot of rain of 20 to 30 millimeters per hour. Today's expected rain is 10 to 50 and 60mm in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungcheong area, followed by 20 to 60mm in Gangwon-do and Jeonbuk, and slightly more in Gyeongsang-do. That's why Jeonnam and Gyeongsang areas are 30-80mm. The next place that falls a lot is around 100mm in the southern coastal area. It is expected to be up to 120mm in the mountainous area of Jeju. On the southern coast, where the heaviest rain warning was issued, thunder, lightning, and gusts of wind are accompanied, with a lot of rain of 20-30mm per hour now. The rain is expected to last for now until mid-afternoon.

[Anchor]
You're saying that strong rain mainly falls in the southern part of the country, but there's also strong wind?

[Planar]
That's right. Currently, the wind is blowing 30 to 40 meters per second and 15 to 20 meters per second on the 1.5km upper floor. That's why the wind is strong overall. The wind is blowing strongly south of Jeju. The problem is that a strong wind warning will be issued toward the west coast tonight when the cold high pressure in the north begins to come down as the barometric valley passes. Tomorrow, strong wind warnings are expected to take effect across the country on both the east and south coasts. Therefore, inland areas including Seoul also have instantaneous maximum wind speeds of 15 meters per second or more. It is expected that very strong winds will blow mainly up to 20m on the coast side and 25m on the mountain side, which is high. Once the rain stops tomorrow morning, the wind will strengthen and the temperature will drop sharply. And it is said that if the wind is more than 15m now, the signboard will fly. So, the inland area is also expected to blow more than 15m, so I hope you manage the facilities in advance.

[Anchor]
It was a recent period of control during which seawater heights were rising, so should coastal areas be more careful if the wind blows this strong?

[Planar]
Yesterday, strong winds dragged seawater into the control period, causing water to cross many coastal areas and flood. Today, the southwest wind is blowing in, and strong winds are coming in. Since the tide is still large, there is a high possibility that these seawater will come over in the case of the coast. I think we need to prepare today as well.

[Anchor]
You said the temperature would drop after the rain stopped, how cold would it get?
[half-term]
It didn't fall this morning because of the clouds. It's raining during the day, so about 16 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in Seoul is expected to be around 10 degrees tomorrow because clouds remain in the morning. From tomorrow afternoon, the temperature will drop sharply. As I said earlier, the temperature drops, too. Tomorrow afternoon, the temperature in Seoul is 16 degrees, which means that the recent temperature will drop by more than 6 to 7 degrees. On top of that, the wind blows, so the temperature drops sharply. So, tomorrow afternoon, the perceived temperature will be between 4 and 7 degrees Celsius, and Seoul will be like that. The temperature drop the most is the dawn of the day after tomorrow. It drops to 7 degrees in Seoul. If it's about 7 degrees, it's about the beginning of November. It's lower than usual.

So the problem is that the temperature drops and it gets very cold, but it doesn't last long. Currently, there is a high possibility that Korea will continue to have higher temperatures than usual, and then the temperature will drop like this, so there is a high possibility that you will feel the cold strongly. First of all, the average temperature will recover from Friday afternoon, and if we go to Saturday and Sunday, the temperature will be 3-4 degrees higher than the average year. The weather is expected to continue next week, with temperatures higher than usual. So, overall, the temperature continues to be higher than the average year in October. However, the temperature drops for two to three days only when the pressure trough passes and the Siberian high pressure comes down. So, between tomorrow afternoon and the day after tomorrow when the temperature drops, I think I should dress a little thick and take good care of my health.

[Anchor]
It's rare that it rains this much in the fall. Has the amount of rain increased a lot compared to previous years?

[Planar]
That's right. Isn't there a lot of clear days in October? It doesn't rain much, and even if it rains, it's a small amount. Usually, the average precipitation in October is between 50 and 60 mm. Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, and Gwangju. In particular, if you look at the precipitation in October, there are a lot of Gangneung, so Yeongdong, and Jeju. In this year's case, the average precipitation in October was almost exceeded nationwide until yesterday. In particular, in the case of the East Coast region, it was quite accidental, and about 150mm of rain fell until yesterday. What's more, the characteristic is that it continues to be on the mountain side of Jeju and the southern coast. From yesterday to today, 130mm of rain fell in the South Sea in one day. Autumn precipitation is usually 50-60mm in that area, but 130mm fell in one day yesterday, until this morning. As such, the southern coast, the eastern coast of Gangwon-do, and the mountainous side of Jeju are areas where it rains exceptionally much this fall.

[Anchor]
There was also news of snow. It is said that the first snow fell on Mt. Seorak last weekend. It's a little faster than usual, right?

[Planar]
That's right. Since Mt. Seorak is below zero, the east wind came into Mt. Seorak between the night of the 19th and the early morning of the 20th, and the snow fell about 1cm. It is said that snow fell about two days earlier than last year, but in the case of Seoraksan Mountain, the deviation of the first snow every year is very large. When I get off late, I sometimes go until December, and when I come early, I sometimes get off around early October. This year, it is faster than usual. It was about two days earlier than last year, but as the cold comes down today, all high mountainous areas in Gangwon-do, including Mt. Seorak, are expected to be below zero again from tomorrow. So, even if it rains in flat areas, Seoraksan Mountain, high areas in Gangwon-do, and mountains are expected to snow.

[Anchor]
It's the season when frost falls tomorrow. It's the last season of fall. Then, is fall already over? That's what I think. How do you see it?

[Planar]
Usually, when we look at the season, we enter Ipdong right after Sanggang, so it's the last season in autumn. If you look at it now, autumn is getting shorter. Summer continues to increase, while autumn is shorter and winter is shorter. If you average those 30 years from 1912 to 1940, and the last 30 years from 1990 to 2020, autumn has shortened by about 4 days. But the problem is that it has been getting shorter since the 2020s. About 6 to 7 days. As a result, it's not like fall is actually getting shorter, it's actually getting shorter.

In particular, this year's temperature was very high in September, and autumn began late. Normally, according to climate statistics, fall began in Seoul on September 26, but fall began in October this year. So, autumn began almost six days later than usual, but the problem is that even after coming in now, the temperature has been high, but as the temperature goes down this time, it feels like autumn. If you look at it now, La Niña is in progress. La Niña is in progress and there is a lot of melting Arctic glaciers. Then, the first cold tends to come early.

Currently, if we analyze all the time until early December, there is an ensemble forecast for the full-day long-term forecast. the World Meteorological Organization Looking at it, warm air remains in our country until early December. Won't it be warmer than usual at least until early November? However, in the case of mid-November, if it is similar to the average year, wouldn't it be slightly colder than the average year by the end of November? The Korea Meteorological Administration believes that December is colder than usual. So even if it starts late, if it's colder than usual from late November, this fall is very short. So even if it's meteorological autumn, which we classify as almost autumn, it's only between a month and 50 days.

[Anchor]
As autumn began late, the autumn leaves began to turn red late, so has the period of time to see autumn leaves been shortened?

[Planar]
Originally, if the autumn leaves are colored late, it seems natural to look longer as 10,000 leaves are delayed, but in reality, this is not the case. The peak of autumn leaves is expected this year, and Seoraksan Mountain is already at its peak on October 20th and Odaesan Mountain is already at its peak. Autumn leaves will peak on October 28 in Bukhansan Mountain, followed by Naejangsan Mountain on November 5. Currently, the only place with the peak of autumn leaves is Odaesan Mountain. Where the autumn leaves are colored, that is, 20% of the top of the mountain began to turn red when the autumn leaves were colored. We say that when 80% of the top of the mountain is colored with autumn leaves, autumn leaves are at their peak.

Currently, only the eastern mountains are mainly colored with autumn leaves. The mountains in the west have not yet turned autumn leaves. The current autumn leaves are about 8 days later than usual. It's about six days later than last year. I'm currently expecting that, but I think there's a possibility that the peak of autumn leaves will be delayed a little more than expected. So if it's late, last year's weather was warm, so the leaves didn't turn red, but suddenly it got cold, so the colors fell out pretty instead of autumn leaves, just blue. So I don't think I'll see that pretty autumn leaves this year either. Then, when it gets cold, I expect that it will fall quickly.

[Anchor]
It's not pretty, but nevertheless, where should I go to enjoy autumn leaves after the rain stops?

[Planar]
In my case, I always go to Naejangsan Mountain every year. I always go to Naejangsan Mountain, but the Korea Forest Service recommended the best mountain to enjoy autumn leaves in Korea. So I'm going to go to one of them this year. I should go there and go to five places one by one starting next year. The Korea Forest Service recommended that Yeonin Mountain Luxury Valley Road in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Bangtaesan Morning Garim Forest Road in Gangwon-do, Baekje Buheung-gun Road in Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Sanglim Forest Road in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gotjawal Forest Road in Jeju Gyorae Natural Recreation Forest are the most beautiful in five colors anyway. It's not me, but I'm planning to go to Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do this year.
