A man in his 60s was sentenced to prison for setting fire to a Ferry Sewol memorial altar in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province.

The Jeonju District Court sentenced A, in his 60s, to one year in prison on charges of arson.

The court said there was a risk that arson could lead to a major fire, especially considering that the defendant has been criminally punished 15 times for property damage or violent crimes against an unspecified number of people.

Mr. A was arrested on May 19 on charges of burning some of the tents of the Ferry Sewol memorial altar and internal furniture by lighting a paper bag at Pungnammun Square in Jeonju.
