Pyeongtaek City is the security center of the Republic of Korea, with Camp Humphreys, the largest U.S. military base overseas, and the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, a symbol of the Korea-U.S. alliance.
In addition, as a leading city in the high-tech industry with the world's largest semiconductor plant, the forum plans to explore the role of local governments as a key pillar of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and cooperation measures to cope with the changing security situation.
"While the South Korea-U.S. alliance is changing from a one-dimensional military alliance to a comprehensive relationship of economic and technical alliances, it is a very important task to seek the role of Pyeongtaek City, home of the U.S. Forces Korea," said Mayor Chung Jang-sun.
"By actively incorporating the results of this forum's discussion into the city administration, we expect Pyeongtaek City to rise as an international city that plays a leading role in various fields such as economy, technology, and culture," he added.
