Mapo-gu, Seoul, has launched a policy advisory group to abolish additional incinerators.
A 12-member policy advisory group, including professors, researchers and residents, plans to suggest that the construction of incineration plants is not a fundamental solution to waste disposal and realistic policies to reduce household waste.
Earlier, Mapo-gu has held more than 10 press conferences and residents' signature campaigns since the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, as a candidate site for a new incinerator in August 2022.
Mayor Park Kang-soo stressed that he will fight until the construction of additional incinerators that infringe on Mapo-gu residents' right to health, the right to pursue happiness, and the right to property is canceled.
