Daejeon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the tram on Line 2 of the urban railway at the upstream side of the Yudeunggyo Bridge.
It has been 28 years since the government approved the basic plan in 1996.
Daejeon Urban Railroad Line 2 is 38.8km long and will be built with 45 stations and one vehicle base as a circulation line that circulates through five autonomous districts in Daejeon.
Urban Railroad Line 2 is scheduled to open at the end of 2028 after three and a half years of construction and a six-month trial process.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said, "It is a historic moment that opens a new future for transportation in Daejeon as the tram of the city railway line 2 begins its construction."
