Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon held a "Joint City-Gu Emergency Economic Meeting" attended by heads of 25 autonomous districts and local economic organizations, and stressed that the role of local governments is very important to protect citizens' daily lives amid political turmoil.

Referring to Belgium's long-term anarchy, he explained that despite three years of lack of a government cabinet, it showed solid economic growth, and that the stable operation of local governments filled the gap in central government was behind it.

He also added that as large-scale gatherings are expected over the weekend, each autonomous district should come up with thorough crowd management and safety measures.
