The 29th Busan International Film Festival begins its 10-day heated competition with a spectacular opening ceremony shortly.

For the first time in the history of the Busan International Film Festival, the OTT historical drama "Jeon, Lan" starring Kang Dong-won was selected.

The place where I stand is the Seoul Cinema Center, where the opening ceremony will take place soon.

The audience began to enter a little while ago, and preparations for the opening ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. are in full swing.

The biggest feature of this year's Busan International Film Festival is that there are not only a few works that are somewhat difficult to understand, but also many popular works that ordinary audiences will like.

In particular, an OTT film was selected for the first time in the history of the Busan International Film Festival as an opening film showing the identity of the festival,

This is a historical drama film 'Jeon, Lan' that will be released on Netflix on the 11th.

Director Park Chan-wook made headlines as he directed the production, and it boasts colorful casting such as actor Kang Dong-won, who played the role of Novi for the first time since his debut, as well as Park Jung-min and Cha Seung-won.

[Kang Dong-won / Starring the movie 'Jeon, Lan' : I'm so happy to be at the Busan Film Festival because it's been a long time since I've been there. Since there are many scenes where I fight with various characters, I worked hard with (various) emotions.]

Also, BTS leader RM's documentary, which stands out for its visual beauty, was invited to the open cinema section for the first time as a K-pop documentary, and it was already sold out.
The movie 'Bogota: The Land of the Last Chance' starring Song Joong-ki
is also invited to meet with audiences in a section showing the latest Korean commercial films.

Amid the growing interest in films and film festivals amid OTT's offensive, a number of works that the general public would like were put forward.

However, the festival dismissed this concern amid some concerns that the purpose of the festival to introduce and promote independent films may be fading.

[Park Do-shin / Vice President of Busan International Film Festival: You might think that (the Busan International Film Festival) is going to commercial or OTT movies, but independent films are the most important pillars leading the Busan International Film Festival, so the stance remains unchanged.]

This year's official invitation is a total of 224 films from 63 countries, slightly higher than last year's 209 films, and various works can be found throughout the movie theaters in Busan.

The Busan International Film Festival will last for 10 days from today to the 11th.

I'm Kim Seung Hwan of YTN at the Busan Cinema Center.
