Professors of medical schools across the country took to the streets to prevent the government from disabling the Korea Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation.

Professors of medical schools nationwide, including the National Medical College Professors Emergency Response Committee, held a "National Medical College Professors' Resolution Conference to Stop the Disability of the Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation" at 1 p.m. today at the square in front of the War Memorial near the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul.

Professors expressed the medical community's willingness to protest against the government's rush to increase medical schools, evaluate medical education, and neutralize the medical council, a certification body.

On the 25th of last month, the government announced legislative amendments to the regulations on the evaluation and certification of higher education institutions, which include suspending disposition for more than a year even if the medical school's education conditions deteriorate due to the increase in medical schools.

In a joint statement on the 27th of last month, the Korean Medical Association and medical professors urged the Ministry of Education to immediately cancel the revised bill so that the independence and autonomy of the Medical Council can be maintained.
