North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO's new secretary-general, visited Ukraine two days after taking office and expressed strong support.

After meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, Ukraine, on the 3rd local time, new Secretary-General Rutter said in a joint press conference, "It was very important to visit Ukraine at the beginning of his term. Our core goal is to become a full member of NATO."

On the issue of using Western-backed weapons to attack mainland Russia, however, Secretary-General Rutter declined to give an immediate answer, saying, "Ukraine clearly has the right to self-defense," but added, "It is up to each of our allies to decide what restrictions to put on the weapons provided."

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky has repeatedly called on the West to provide quick arms aid.

President Zelenskyy stressed that "we need enough weapons, including long-range weapons, both quantitatively and qualitatively," and pointed out that "partners are dragging their arms support."
