The Polish government has said it will increase the size of its defense budget to GDP from 4.2% this year to 4.7% next year.

"Next year's defense budget will be a record amount of more than 186 billion zloty," Polish Defense Minister Vwadysław Koshiniakkamysi told a news conference on the 4th local time.

This is worth 63.8 trillion won in our money.

Poland has significantly increased its defense spending since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.

This year's 4.2% defense budget-to-GDP ratio is already the highest among NATO and NATO allies.

Poland is pursuing an "Eastern Shield" plan to build an anti-tank barrier on the eastern border by 2028, saying it will prevent military threats from Russia and Belarus.

Deputy Defense Minister Chezari Tomczyk said the project will be joined by the United States, Britain and the three Baltic countries.

Koshiniakkamish said next year's budget had been submitted to parliament with cabinet approval, adding that "military spending is a kind of insurance policy."

Poland's defense spending last year was 137.1 billion zloty (about 47 trillion won) and 158.8 billion zloty (about 54.4 trillion won) this year.
