EU, EU to impose tariffs of up to 45.3% on Chinese electric vehicles imported at bargain prices

This is what you would call a "tariff bomb."

China protested against unfair protectionism, saying it was resolutely opposed.

Up to 45.3% tariffs on Chinese EVs imported into Europe!

The European Commission says it has secured sufficient support from EU member states for the introduction of final countervailing duties.

In the vote, 10 countries, including France and Italy, five countries, including Germany and Hungary, were opposed, and the remaining 12 countries abstained, which considered the abstention vote "virtually in favor."

This is why it hits a "tariff bomb" to prevent Chinese electric vehicles, which have become cheaper due to oversubsidies, from being imported into Europe at bargain prices.

The EU has applied a minimum tariff rate of 17.8% to Tesla, which has called for an individual investigation, saying it has fewer subsidy benefits.

[Olof Jill / European Commission spokesman] What we want is to eliminate the effects of the harmful subsidies.]

The tariff plan will be published in the official gazette by the end of this month and will be implemented for five years.

The EU has left open the possibility of adjusting tariff rates, saying it will continue negotiating with China.

It also appears that Chinese electric vehicle companies have in mind a proposal to set a voluntary lower selling price limit.

[Olof Jill / European Commission spokesman: The reason we continue to negotiate with China in a sincere and constructive way is to find a solution. We are open to finding solutions.]

China's Ministry of Commerce protested, saying, "We are resolutely opposed to Europe's unfair and unreasonable protectionist practices and anti-subsidiary tariffs."

It also warned that it will take all necessary measures to firmly protect Chinese corporate interests.
