U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed opposition to Israel's plan to launch retaliatory attacks on Iran's oil facilities, calling for an alternative.

Separately, the U.S. military officially confirmed that it had preemptively struck Houthi rebel facilities in Yemen.

I'll connect you with a reporter for more information. Reporter Kim Jandi!

Is the U.S. against Israel's attack on Iran's oil facilities?

[Reporter]
Yes, this is what U.S. President Joe Biden answered a reporter's question in the White House briefing room, his first visit since taking office on the 4th local time.

President Biden has said that if he were in Israel's position, he would look for alternatives other than attacking Iran's oil fields.

Israel has not yet concluded what to do with the Iranian attack, he said, adding, "This is an issue under discussion."

Let's listen to this in person.

[Joe Biden/U.S. President: Israel has not yet reached any conclusions regarding the Iran hit and discussions are still ongoing. If I were in Israel's position, I would think of an alternative, not an oil field hit.]

A day earlier, President Biden said only that "Israel is discussing how to conduct the airstrike" on the possibility of Israel attacking Iran's oil facilities in retaliation.

However, as oil prices soared and the international oil market showed an unstable trend, he hurriedly clarified his negative stance.

Israel has warned of retaliation for Iran's launch of 200 missiles into the country on the 1st.

President Biden called for caution, saying that Israel has the right to respond to attacks not only from Iran but also from Hezbollah, the Houthis and others, but that civilian sacrifices must be prevented.

He also stressed that the U.S. is trying to rally the international community to prevent an all-out war in the Middle East.

U.S. forces say they attacked Houthi rebel facilities in Yemen, right?

[Reporter]
Yes, the U.S. military officially announced that it had hit 15 sites in Yemen, including attacking military facilities by pro-Iranian Houthi rebels.

The U.S. Central Command, which has jurisdiction over the Middle East, said on the 4th local time that it had "hit 15 targets inside Yemen in areas controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthis."

Targets attacked by U.S. forces include Yemen's military offensive capabilities, the Central Command said.

"The move is aimed at protecting freedom of navigation and making international waters safer and more stable for the United States and other allied countries and merchant ships," the Central Command said.

Houthi-run outlet Almasira TV said U.S. and British forces bombed airports in the port city of Hodeida, the capital Sanaa and midwestern Damar.

U.S. officials have also confirmed that U.S. forces have struck a number of targets, including weapons systems, bases and military equipment from the pro-Iranian rebel Houthis in Yemen.

Earlier the day before, the Houthis released a screen showing the hull exploding on social media, saying it was when they attacked a British oil tanker with a unmanned ship in the Red Sea on the 1st.

When the Gaza war broke out in October last year, the Houthis have attacked merchant ships on the Red Sea in the name of Hamas support and have also fired missiles and drones at Israel several times.
