This year alone, more than 6,000 hacking attempts targeting the National Heritage Administration and its agencies have been reported.

According to the data obtained by Kim Seung-soo, a member of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, there were 6,233 hacking attempts against the National Heritage Administration and eight affiliated organizations from January to August.

This is larger than the total 5,770 hacking attempts last year, and if the current trend continues by the end of the year, it is expected to break its highest since 2020, when it began counting, exceeding 6,940 in 2022 and 7,125 in 2021.

The most exposed institution to hacking was the Korea Traditional Culture University, where 2,581 attempts (41.4%) were attempted, and the headquarters of the National Heritage Administration, the National Intangible Heritage Center, and the National Heritage Promotion Agency were also targeted for hacking.

Lawmaker Kim stressed the need for more thorough security checks and security measures, as personal information such as addresses, educational backgrounds, and resident registration numbers of more than 2,000 employees of the National Heritage Administration were leaked to the internal network in May.
