Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol said he will thoroughly prepare for the possibility of North Korea's provocations during the U.S. presidential election and regime change, and maintain close cooperation between the U.S. and South Korea.

At the parliamentary audit of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, Minister Cho said, "North Korea has not responded to our proposal for dialogue at all, continues to upgrade its nuclear and missile capabilities, and is carrying out complex provocations such as spraying garbage balloons."

He added that regardless of the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, diplomatic efforts will be made to strengthen cooperation between the U.S. and South Korea, the U.S. and Japan from various angles.

Regarding Korea-Japan relations, Cho said, "We will make active efforts to expand future-oriented cooperation with the newly launched Japanese cabinet," adding, "We will closely consult with Japan to ensure that the 60th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan relations next year will be remembered as a meaningful year for the bilateral relationship."
