The strongest-rated hurricane is set to make landfall in Florida in the U.S., raising fears of a second hurricane damage in two weeks in the region.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Milton, which has been upgraded to the highest level of 5, is moving at 15 kilometers per hour from southwest Tampa toward the Florida Peninsula.

Milton is expected to close to Florida's west coast on the evening of the 8th local time, penetrate the Florida Peninsula the next morning, and then exit the eastern Atlantic the same afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center said Milton, which has already reached 250 kilometers per hour, is strengthening at a remarkably fast pace, adding that there were only two hurricanes that grew so fast in 24 hours: Wilma in 2005 and Felix in 2007.

Milton also warned it could cause life-threatening damage to Florida's coast and inland, saying it was expected to weaken a little before reaching Florida's Gulf Coast but still likely to be a large and powerful hurricane.

The Florida area has already been hit hard by a Category 4 hurricane, Hurlin, which landed on the west coast of Florida late last month and crossed northeast, so the Category 5 Milton forecast is on alert.

Hurlin has killed at least 230 people and caused tens of trillions of won in property damage in the southeastern United States, including Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina.
