It was pointed out that more than 270,000 people have suffered from aftereffects due to COVID-19 infection in four years, but support has not been provided due to unclear management departments.

According to the data received by Rep. Baek Jong-heon of the People's Power from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, 274,000 people suffered chronic aftereffects such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, and fatigue after treatment for COVID-19 from 2020 to July this year.

Lawmaker Baek pointed out, however, that the aftereffects of COVID-19 are not infectious diseases, so they are left in the blind spot of management by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention because there is no basis for spending the budget.

He also stressed that as the COVID-19 resurgence is expected to continue this summer, systematic responses and support at the government level should follow to prevent mild-level sequelae from falling into severe patients.
