Delivery App Issues Crying Self-Employed,

While the
government is pressing to improve legislation if the win-win agreement is not reached, the National Assembly has also called representatives of delivery platforms to the National Assembly.

However, the win-win consultative body failed to reach an agreement even at the sixth meeting.

Lee Seung-eun reports.

Baedal Minjok, the No. 1 representative of Baedal Minjok, has been called to the National Assembly's National Audit Office.

The ruling and opposition parties continued to criticize.

[Park Hyung-soo / National Assemblyman (Power of the People): I think we should change the company's name to ugly brothers, not elegant brothers.]

[Jeong Jin-wook / National Assemblyman (Democratic Party of Korea): The Korean people are about to pay European fines to German companies instead. German parent company Delivery Hero sees it squeezing the Baemin people as much as possible, and Baemin tries to squeeze the store and take the money to Germany.]

[Peter Jan Vandeffitt / Interim CEO of Baedal's ethnic group Woowa Brothers: We know that in order to succeed in Korea, we need to do business from a long-term perspective while consulting with various stakeholders]

There was also criticism about Coupang Eats.

[Kim Kyo-heung / National Assemblyman (Democratic Party of Korea): I told you to do a win-win council, but Coupang will lower the fee, so please ease the sanctions...]

[Kim Myung-gyu / Coupang Eats Service CEO: I didn't ask you to do it, but I said that there was such a thing in other laws, and it was not discussed at the table....]

[Kim Kyo-heung / National Assemblyman (Democratic Party of Korea): Isn't that why you're asking us to take small business owners hostage and overlook illegal activities?]

Some pointed out that it is better to increase the competitiveness of public delivery apps, saying that supporting delivery fees for small business owners is the same as spraying salt in the sea.

[Lee Sang-gap / Gwangju City Deputy Mayor of Culture and Economy: If the Ministry of SMEs and Startups supports 200 billion won in delivery fees, 96% of them will eventually go to private delivery apps.]

In the midst of this, the win-win consultative body between the delivery platform and the store company failed to narrow differences even at the 6th meeting.

Baemin proposed a method of differentiating the commission rate according to the size of sales, but the organizations refused, saying the commission rate should be lowered further.

The government said it will hold its seventh meeting on the 14th and make final adjustments through additional consultations.

If the disagreement is not narrowed, the public interest committee will present an arbitration proposal, and if the delivery app does not accept it, it will be announced as a recommendation.
