In the South China Sea, a Chinese coast guard ship launched a water cannon attack on a Philippine ship.

According to Reuters and others, Chinese coast guard ships fired water cannons at two ships belonging to the Philippine Fisheries Agency near the disputed Scarborough reef on the morning of the 8th local time.

Three Chinese coast guard ships and a Chinese navy warship approached and followed the SFC as it carried out its day-to-day task of supplying supplies to Filipino fishing boats operating near Scarborough Reef.

Since then, Chinese coast guard ships have fired water cannons at Philippine Fisheries Agency ships, but they have not reportedly reached the Philippine ship.

In response, China's Coast Guard claimed that two Philippine ships deliberately broke into waters near Scarborough Reef without Chinese government permission.

"The Chinese coast guard ship tracked and monitored the entire process and took control measures according to the law," he said. "The on-site measures were professional, standardized, justified and legal."

After several clashes on Sabina reefs in August, the two countries continued to lull last month with no apparent incident.
