In its own report on the human rights situation, North Korea claimed that no COVID-19 infections have been reported since August 2022.

"As soon as COVID-19 broke out, we took preemptive measures to bring the national emergency quarantine system to the highest level," North Korea wrote in the UPR national report, a review of universal and regular human rights submitted to the U.N. Human Rights Council.

The UPR is a process of checking the human rights situation of 193 UN member states and their implementation of recommendations every four and a half years at the UN Human Rights Council in the UN Geneva office.

North Korea submitted a report that evaluated the improvement of North Koreans' human rights ahead of the implementation of the UPR in November, which described the health rights issue of North Koreans, which the international community has continuously expressed concern about.
