President Yoon Holds First Korea-Japan Summit With Prime Minister Ishiba

President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will hold their first summit in Laos.

The presidential office said it will hold bilateral talks with six countries, including Japan, over two days on the occasion of the ASEAN-related summit.

Earlier, on the 2nd, the day after Ishiba's inauguration, President Yoon spoke for 15 minutes on the phone and said that the two countries should communicate closely and promote cooperation.

At the summit, the two leaders are expected to focus on continuing the improved flow of Korea-Japan relations and shuttle diplomacy since the inauguration of the Yoon administration.

An official from the presidential office explained that next year, when the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan will be celebrated, it will be a place to share opinions on how Korea-Japan relations should start anew.President Yoon, who made a state visit to Singapore prior to

Laos, was a speaker at the Singapore Lecture hosted by the Southeast Asian Research Institute under the Singapore government.

He stressed that the unified Korean Peninsula, which was advocated in the August 15 Unification Doctrine announced on Liberation Day, will dramatically advance freedom, peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
