Tesla, a U.S. electric vehicle company, unveiled a prototype of a robo (unmanned) taxi that runs on full self-driving technology without the steering wheel and pedals on the 10th local time.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk held a "We, Robot" event at Warner Bros. Film Studios in Burbank, Los Angeles, and introduced a prototype "CyberCab" for the self-driving robotaxi business.

The vehicle is designed with two doors with only one door on each side, and the inside has the same steering wheel (handle) and pedal as a regular vehicle.

Shortly after the event began, Musk personally drove the car and showed the vehicle driving autonomously through a short road section on the set before entering the venue.

"We expect to produce highly optimized cybercaps as self-driving transportation," Musk said, adding, "We will make them in bulk by 2026, before 2027."

"Before that, we will experience a robotaxi through all the vehicles we make, including the Model 3, the Model Y, and the Model S," he said, adding that he was confident that "we will get an autonomous driving permit" in areas approved by regulators.

Regarding the price of the cyber cap, it said, "We expect it to be less than 30,000 dollars (about 40 million won)."

Musk also unveiled a concept car for the "Robo Van," an electric van with a capacity of 20 seats.
