Foreign media reported that Hamas, a Palestinian militant faction that launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year, was initially found to have planned a much larger attack.

The Washington Post and the New York Times reported that the Israeli military obtained 59 pages of electronic records and documents found at Hamas command centers during the Gaza war.

The document consists of minutes and letters from 10 secret plans by a small group of Hamas political and military leaders ahead of a surprise attack in October last year.

According to the document, Hamas has been planning far more deadly terrorist attacks against Israel, including "September 11 terrorist attacks" by mobilizing aircraft and others for several years, and has been asking Iran for support.

It also turns out that the company initially planned to carry out attacks on Israel in the fall of 2022 under the name of "large-scale projects," but delayed the execution to persuade Iran and Hezbollah to join the attacks.

Earlier in June 2021, Yahya Sinwar, Hamas' Gaza leader, and others sent a letter asking for Iran's support, promising to completely topple Israel within two years.

Hamas also used a strategy last year to deliberately avoid major clashes with Israel for two years from 2021 to maximize the effectiveness of its attacks on Israel, planting a perception in Israeli leaders that Hamas is calm.

The Israeli military said it found the document while searching the Hamas headquarters in Khan Younis in late January, and released it ahead of a decision to retaliate again against Iran's missile attacks.

But Iran's mission to the United Nations and Hezbollah have denied what appears in the minutes.

"All plans, decision-making and command were carried out by the Hamas military wing in Gaza alone," Iran's mission said. "The claim to link it to Iran or Hezbollah in part or in whole is unreliable and fabricated."

A Hezbollah spokesperson also denied to CNN that "as the martyr leader Nasrallah said, Hezbollah was not aware of Hamas's "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood" on October 7.
