Notification of Trade and Technology Barriers to WTO Member States in 1st-3rd Quarter 'Most Ever'

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Technology and Standards said more than 3,000 notifications of trade and technology barriers issued by the World Trade Organization and WTO member states in the first three quarters of this year, the highest ever recorded in the same period.

Among them, the number of notifications in the third quarter was about 1,000, up 30% from the same period last year.

WTO member states are obliged to notify the WTO of relevant trends when enacting or amending technical regulations that have a significant impact on trade.

Recently, as U.S.-China strategic competition intensifies and its own trade policies are strengthened, notification of trade technology barriers is rapidly increasing worldwide.

Until 2005, there were only less than 1,000 notifications of trade technology barriers, but they have increased rapidly since then, exceeding 4,000 for the first time in history last year.
