Myeong Tae-kyun, a key figure in the 'intervention of the nomination' allegation, claimed that he led the unification of Rep. Ahn Cheol Soo and Mayor Oh Se-hoon in the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election.

Former emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in and Mayor Oh, who led the party at the time, refuted Myung's claim, saying it was nonsense.

Myung Tae-kyun, who has claimed to have helped the elections of various ruling party figures, including President Yoon Suk Yeol, summoned the Seoul mayoral by-election phase in 2021.

There has never been a single poll published in early 2021 in which Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon beat another rival candidate, claiming that he set the stage for Oh to win.

On March 5, a day after the People's Power Party primary, Myung met with Kim Jong-in, then chairman of the emergency committee, and said he was asked to win the election of People's Power candidate and Ahn Cheol Soo.

In response, he recalled that he proposed three conditions to former chairman Kim, including the recommendation of Sung Il-jong for unification with lawmaker Ahn.

He stressed that it was also his judgment to delay the timing of unification until after candidate registration.

In response, both former chairman Kim and Mayor Oh countered that Myung's story was not true.

It is true that Kim met Myung on March 5 with the introduction of former lawmaker Kim Young-sun, but the meeting was about 10 minutes and he dismissed the question of whether it makes sense to be offered the condition of unification by the first person he met.

Mayor Oh, who was well aware of the unification negotiations at the time, also said, "It is not a structure in which outsiders, not negotiating teams, can be involved in decision-making," adding, "Myeong's claim is not true."

Daegu Mayor Hong Joon Pyo also urged the prosecution to take decisive action, accusing Myung of another election broker shaking the country following the 10th.

However, the burden on the ruling party is not expected to be easily resolved as controversy continues over Myung, including the alleged "leakage of the membership list" during the parliamentary audit period and the opposition party's offensive.
