Even after spending 10 billion won..."93% of landslides occurred outside of 'vulnerable areas' designated by the Korea Forest Service"

It has been pointed out that there is a serious flaw in the Forest Service's designation of landslide-prone areas.

According to data received by Yoon Joon-byung of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Committee from the Korea Forest Service, out of 4,908 landslides in the past four years, 338, or 7%, occurred in landslides, and 4,507 cases, or more than 93% occurred in non-vulnerable areas.

In particular, out of 2,410 landslides last year, only 73 occurred in vulnerable areas, accounting for only 3%.

The Korea Forest Service conducted a survey of landslides from 2021 to last month and designated 25,639 areas nationwide as vulnerable areas, and the budget used for this is more than 10 billion won.

Lawmaker Yoon pointed out that the Forest Service designated and managed 30,000 landslide-prone areas under the policy to designate landslide-prone areas introduced after the 2011 Woomyeonsan landslide in Seoul, but most of the actual landslides occurred outside the vulnerable areas.

He then added that the overall system needs to be improved as it proves that preventive agencies, including the Korea Forest Service, are not doing their job.
