In November next year, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will be held in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

At the same time, Gyeongsangbuk-do has selected next year as the 'Year of Visiting Gyeongbuk' and has stepped up efforts to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

Reporter Lee Yun-jae reports.

Cheomseongdae, a place that comes to mind when you think of Gyeongju.

Tourists walk slowly and take pictures and leave memories.

Foreigners are amazed by the observatory that was built 1,300 years ago.

Many people visit Hwangridan-gil, which is about 1km away.

These are travelers who have come to see the charm of racing that is difficult to experience in other regions.

[Song Young-jin / Sinjang-dong, Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do: There are many famous historical sites and it's close to Hwangridan-gil, so I came here to take a look. It's a good day to take a walk with a baby and the food is really good.

Gyeongsangbuk-do has declared 2025 as the Year of Visiting Gyeongbuk. In addition to

Gyeongju, we will attract people to local tourist destinations such as Pohang and Andong to promote Korean tradition and style.

In particular, as the APEC summit will be held in Gyeongju in November next year, I think it will be a great opportunity to promote Gyeongbuk abroad.

[Ju Nak-young / Gyeongju Mayor, North Gyeongsang Province] Gyeongju is already facing 50 million tourism years, and I think it's a very meaningful year because the APEC summit will be held next year. In line with this, the 2025 North Gyeongsang Province Visit Year has been designated.

To this end, we plan to develop tourism products or APEC-related products linked to UNESCO cultural heritage and expand overseas promotional activities.

[Lee Chul-woo / Governor of North Gyeongsang Province] We need to develop a large-scale tourism resource. We will develop not only accommodation facilities, but also amusement facilities, facilities to enjoy, and food so that our Gyeongsangbuk-do can become a global tourism resource.]

However, accommodation facilities, food suitable for foreigners, and tourism programs need to be improved and developed.

Attention is focusing on whether we can solve homework to attract tourists, attract 100 million people, and achieve the goal of 5 trillion won in tourism income.
