A driver who threw a 500 won coin to a toll gate employee was fined for assault.

According to a Newsis report on the 14th, Judge Yoo Jeong-hee of the Changwon District Court's Criminal Chamber 3 announced that he sentenced a man in his 50s to a fine of 1 million won for assault.

In July last year, Mr. A pulled up to pay tolls at the toll booth of Machang Bridge in Seongsan-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. He then asked B (in his 50s), an employee at the toll booth, informally, "You said you would give a discount, but didn't you lower the fare?"

When B said, "Weekend tolls are not discounted," A said, "Are you kidding me? He continued to swear, saying, "Are you making fun of me?" and threw a 500-won coin into B's face, which he received as change, saying, "Make 500 won more."

The coin was found to have hit the window frame of the toll booth, not B's face, but the court judged that the act of A throwing the coin and fitting it to the window frame constitutes assault.

The court said, "The accused's crime is poor," but added, "We considered acknowledging and reflecting on his wrongdoings, and the fact that he had no criminal record or similar criminal record over the past fine."
