Tensions are rising in the Gangwon border area as North Korea blew up the Gyeongui and East Sea lines inter-Korean connections.

Fishing boats that were fishing at the northernmost Jeodo fishing grounds on the east coast were urgently withdrawn, and the operation of security tourism sites was temporarily suspended.

Reporter Song Se-hyuk visited the northernmost border area on the east coast.

Myeongpari, Goseong, the northernmost village on the east coast.

Around noon when North Korea blew up the inter-Korean road on the East Sea Line, residents said they heard several loud explosions.

[Jang Yong-chul / Myeongpa-ri, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do: Boom, boom, boom, boom. Anyway, I kept shooting like I was shooting. You shoot and rest like that, and then you shoot again....]

From here, about 10 kilometers from the Military Demarcation Line, the north is a civilian control zone. Access to farming activities and security tourism, which were normally allowed, was also banned.

Residents are worried that the prolonged access control will cause major disruptions to farming.

At 10:23 a.m.,
an hour and a half before North Korea blew up the inter-Korean road.At the request of the military authorities, the
Coast Guard urgently withdrew 57 fishing boats operating in the northernmost low-altitude fishing grounds on the east coast.

[Kim Hyunseok / Head of Daejin Fishing Village, Goseong-gun: Samsik (Sombangi)] [There are a lot of octopus. If the control is extended like today, it will be a big blow to the fishermen's lives]

The operation of security tourism sites has also been temporarily suspended.

The Unification Observatory was temporarily closed until the 20th due to the control of access to the civilian control line, and tourists who visited without knowing this had to turn away.

[Choi Eun-deok / Mia-dong, Seoul: I came to the Unification Observatory with a big heart, so it's a shame I couldn't go.]

North Korea's provocation has heightened tensions between the two Koreas.

Residents of the Gangwon border region are calmly watching the situation even in tension.
