The National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's parliamentary audit of the Gyeongbuk National Police Agency led to criticism from opposition lawmakers over the results of the investigation into the Chae Sang-byung case.

Rep. Lee Sang-sik of the Democratic Party of Korea said, "I can't understand the decision to reject the former division commander Lim," and argued that the only thing to understand is President Yoon Suk Yeol's anger.

Yoon Gun-young of the same party pointed out that the police said former division commander Lim had no order to search underwater, but the bereaved claims were completely different and the prosecution accepted the bereaved claims.

North Gyeongsang National Police Agency Commissioner Kim Chul-moon said he will take responsibility for the investigation.

At the same time, he explained that the direct cause of Chae's death was to order an underwater search, and former division commander Lim did not order an underwater search, but only how to search.

Members of the ruling party, the People's Power, strengthened Kim by double-checking whether there was external pressure and whether the investigation process was fair.
