China reaffirmed its position that inter-Korean efforts are needed to stabilize the Korean Peninsula over the revision of North Korea's constitution, which defines South Korea as a "thorough hostile state."

"We are paying attention to changes in the situation on the Korean Peninsula," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a regular briefing.

China has been pushing for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and resolving political problems, he added, adding that he hopes the parties will make constructive efforts together.

China made a similar stance on the 9th, when North Korea previously announced plans to cut off the inter-Korean connection between the Gyeongui and East Sea lines, and on the 15th, when it actually blew up.
