Competition for reservations for "air tickets" for next Chuseok is already fierce. Tickets for some popular destinations have already been sold out or prices have soared eight times.
Starting with National Foundation Day on October 3, next year's Chuseok holiday is followed by seven consecutive red days from the 4th to the 5th of the same month, the Chuseok holiday from the 6th to the 8th of the same month, and the Hangul Day on the 9th.
On top of that, if you use a day of annual leave on Friday, the 10th, you can spend a total of 10 days of holidays, including the weekend of the 11th and 12th. Therefore, it is analyzed that more and more people are planning travel in advance.
It is reported that the price of overseas tickets, which are far away from the departure date, is about five to eight times higher than that of the average year.
According to Korean Air, Hawaii and Guam are showing the fastest reservation status among international routes departing on October 3, the first day of the Chuseok holiday next year.
There are already no regular seat tickets left from Seoul to Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 3 next year. For the Oct. 4 departure, the price of economy tickets soared to 1,826,600 won. The price has more than doubled compared to the price of a flight ticket departing on October 21 this year, which is 860,100 won.
The price of round-trip tickets to Da Nang, Vietnam, a popular destination, soared eight times, and the price of tickets to Paris, France, and Frankfurt, Germany, doubled.
An airline official said, "The aviation industry is particularly affected by supply and demand, so we have no choice but to sell tickets at relatively high fares during periods when demand is concentrated, such as next year's Chuseok holiday," adding, "Even if you can't buy a ticket on the open date of the reservation, the price of the ticket may go down before departure, so it's better to check it from time to time."
