The defendants of the "Chungbuk Dongjido Association," who are accused of spying under orders from North Korean agents, have been commuted at the appeal trial.

The Cheongju Tribunal of the Daejeon High Court overturned the original trial, which sentenced A, the chairman of the Chungbuk Association, to 12 years in prison for violating the National Security Law, and sentenced him to two years in prison.

In addition, two members of the organization charged with the same charge were also reduced from 12 years to five years in prison.

The court judged that it was difficult to say that the Chungbuk Association actually had a scale or system that could be regarded as a criminal organization, and that it had not been sufficiently proven to have organized a criminal organization that continued to commit crimes.

They are accused of conducting security-hazarding activities such as detecting national secrets and collecting domestic circumstances after forming the "Independent Unification Chungbuk Association" under orders from North Korean agents in 2017.
