Autumn snow fell around Shaanxi Province in northern China.

It is the first time since 1951 that it snowed in October, and it is said that it predicts a cold spell this winter.

This is Beijing correspondent Kang Jeong-gyu.

Snowflakes are still flying through the trees with green leaves.

The first snow was observed in Taiyuan, the capital of Shaanxi Province, in the second half of this year.

It's the earliest snowfall since 1951.

Dartong, famous for its Wynngang Seokgur, has already received "Autumn Snow" for the second time after the 2nd.

Snowfall also hit the mountainous areas outside Hebei Province's Shijiazhuang and Beijing.

However, in the case of Beijing, the weather observation did not meet the criteria for the first snow.

[Lining / China Meteorological Department analyst: The temperature in Tianjin, Beijing, dropped below zero for the first time. It's very rare to be this cold in mid-October.

Snow fell in the northernmost regions of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Heilongjiang in early September, more than a month earlier than usual.

The reason is that El Niño, which caused this summer's record heat wave, is changing to La Niña.

When the water temperature in the eastern Pacific warms, it is called El Niño, and when it gets cold, it is called La Niña.When

Lanigna occurs, the possibility of cold waves and heavy snow in Siberia moving south into East Asia increases.

A research team from China's Maritime University explained that faster heating in the early cold increases the probability of La Niña by around 40%.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) predicts a 60% chance of La Niña occurring this winter.
