A 20-year-old man who was handed over to trial on charges of attempting to kill the person next door who told him to smoke outside the house was sentenced to heavy punishment.

On the 22nd, the 13th Criminal Department of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Jang Min-kyung) sentenced A (in his 20s) to five years in prison on charges of attempted murder.

At around 1:40 p.m. on June 20 last year, A was smoking at his house in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, when he was told by B (40), who lived next door between the walls, "I'm sorry, but please go out and smoke."

Outraged by this, A was indicted on charges of attempting to kill B by crossing the wall with a weapon.

A physical fight between A, who tried to wield a weapon, and B, who tried to stop A, took place for about 10 minutes, and when B, who held A's arms, resisted desperately, A ran away. In the process, B, who had been bitten in the ear and shoulder, had to undergo hospital treatment for 21 days.

At the start of the trial, A deposited 400,000 won in criminal charges, but the court did not reflect this as a favorable sentencing factor.

The court pointed out, "We will not take into account the fact that the criminal deposit was made unilaterally against the victim's will as a favorable circumstance for sentencing," adding, "Although the defendant only attempted, the nature of the crime is not good and the illegality is heavy."

"After this incident, the victims' families are suffering from severe mental distress due to anxiety and fear and want severe punishment. The defendant did not make any serious efforts to be forgiven, he said, explaining the reason for the sentencing.
