Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to further develop relations in the future, saying that Russia-China cooperation has contributed to global stability.

Putin and Xi held bilateral talks on the occasion of the BRICS summit, which opened in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia on the 22nd local time.

"Russia's cooperation with China on international issues is one of the main factors driving global stabilization," Putin said. "We will further strengthen cooperation on all multilateral platforms to ensure global security and fair order."

"We can confidently say that in the modern world, we have become an example of how countries should build relationships," he said, stressing that "our multi-faceted cooperation is equal, mutually beneficial and not affected by external conditions."

"We have taken the right path to building relations between great powers on principles that do not form alliances, do not confront and do not target third countries," said Xi, who called Putin a "friend" and expressed friendliness.

"Over the past decade, relations between China and Russia have come a long way, enduring the challenges of the unstable international situation, and have an unprecedented character," he said. "A serious change in the international stage will not be able to undermine China-Russia relations."

Russia and China have strengthened close ties since the launch of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

Starting with the China Belt and Road Summit Forum in October last year, the two leaders showed off their close ties by meeting four times in the year to this day.

As Russia and China are actually leading the BRICS, an alliance of emerging economies, it is expected that they also discussed international issues such as Ukraine, and it is noteworthy whether they have dealt with North Korea's recent dispatch of troops to Russia.
