An analysis showed that cardio-cerebrovascular disease mortality is up to twice as high in vulnerable groups.

According to the data received by Rep. Seo Myung-ok of the People's Power from the National Health Insurance Corporation, 5.2% of the 42,000 vulnerable medical benefits recipients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction last year were dead as of the middle of this month.

During the same period, the mortality rate of patients with acute myocardial infarction who received general health insurance benefits recorded 2.2%, less than half of the death rate of recipients of medical benefits.

In the case of patients diagnosed with cerebral infarction last year, the death rate of medical benefit recipients was 5.6%, which was 1.5 times higher than that of health insurance benefit patients.

Seo pointed out that cardio-cerebrovascular disease requires continuous treatment due to the risk of worsening symptoms, and additional support is needed, such as extending the special calculation period for the vulnerable so that they are not deprived of treatment opportunities for economic reasons.
