German Chancellor "Wars on Ukraine, No NATO Membership"

The German chancellor has rejected Ukraine's invitation to join NATO as the first condition for the end of the war.

"A country at war cannot become a member of NATO," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on a current affairs program on the evening of the 24th local time. "Everyone knows this and there is no disagreement."

The invitation to join Ukraine is not currently on the agenda, he said, adding, "It is rather an issue to discuss security guarantees in the post-war situation."

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented an invitation for NATO members to join his country as the first item in his so-called victory plan.

However, many NATO members, including the United States and Germany, are concerned that the war will grow when Ukraine's accession process to NATO begins.
