With the pro-Russian ruling party winning Georgia's general election, the United States, the European Union and the EU have called for an investigation into possible fraudulent elections.

U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken said in a statement on the 27th local time that "monitoring groups inside and outside Georgia join in calling for a full investigation into election law violations."

"We urge Georgia's political leaders to respect the rule of law, abolish legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms, and address flaws in the election process," he added.

Earlier, the European Commission, in a joint statement with Rousseff Borrell, its High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, also called for a swift and transparent investigation into allegations of fraudulent elections.

In Georgia's general election held on the 26th local time, the current pro-Russian ruling party defeated the pro-Western opposition coalition to win a majority of votes.

However, since then, there have been a series of allegations of fraudulent elections, including allegations of Russian interference in the election.

In particular, independent President Salome Zhuravishvili has come forward to raise suspicions of Russian interference in the election, and the opposition parties say they cannot recognize the results of the vote.
