The Ukrainian government has urged Western aid countries to provide more weapons, saying "sanctions alone are not enough" in connection with the dispatch of North Korean troops.

Ukrainian presidential chief Andriy Yermark said on social media X on the 28th local time, "We need weapons and clear plans to prevent North Korea from expanding its involvement in the war in Europe."

"The North Korean military is already in the Kursk region of Russia, which is exactly what we discussed and confirmed by South Korea," he said. "Russia has attracted North Korea this time, but next time, other dictatorships will come to fight against NATO, believing that they can just move on like this."

Ukraine has claimed that North Korean troops have already arrived in Kursk, the Russian mainland, where it has seized some territory and is fighting, and are expected to be deployed to combat zones on 27-28.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether North Korean troops are actually deployed to the battlefield or participate in fighting with Ukrainian forces.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian military defending the northern region told local broadcasters that "at this time, there are no reports of contact or capture of North Korean troops during combat."
