Yesterday (29th), the Ministry of Education announced that it would leave medical students to take a leave of absence to the university's autonomy.

As the prerequisites for the launch of the ruling and opposition parties and the parliamentary consultative body, which were put forward by the doctors' groups, have been resolved, attention is being paid to whether it will be a clue to resolve the legislative conflict.

Did the Ministry of Education say that it left the university to approve the leave of absence, but that it did not change the policy of "alliance leave"?

[Reporter]
Yesterday, the Ministry of Education said it would voluntarily leave the university to approve the leave of absence for medical students.

He stressed that he did not withdraw his previous policy of "no leave of absence from the alliance."

In other words, each university is required to approve the leave of absence only if it is not an alliance leave of absence after confirming the students' personal reasons for taking a leave of absence.

However, since it is difficult to check each university, approval for a leave of absence is expected to be made on a large scale.

Universities have demanded approval for voluntary leave of absence because they have to schedule next school year's academic year.

It is reported that each medical school will estimate the number of people returning to the first semester of next year based on the approval of leave of absence and prepare for the curriculum.

The Ministry of Education said 37 out of 40 medical schools are currently not allowed to take a leave of absence for more than three consecutive semesters due to school regulations.

Therefore, he explained that universities will decide to dispose of students who do not return to the first semester of next year, except in certain cases such as military leave of absence.

In addition, when asked about the need to readjust the number of first-year students next year by adding the number of people to return to school, he answered that it is physically impossible as before.

"Autonomous approval for leave of absence" was requested by the medical community first, right?

What's the reaction of doctors' groups?

[Reporter]
The medical community's atmosphere is more natural than welcoming.

First of all, medical students seem to view the approval of the leave of absence as a natural thing, saying that the Ministry of Education was preventing the leave of absence that was originally legally paid.

The organization that gave the most positive reviews is the Korean Medical Association.

The Korean Medical Association said the government made the right decision and urged the government to change its forward-looking attitude toward medical and medical students.

The government expects the decision to be a clue to resolve the legislative conflict.

This is because it has resolved the prerequisites for participation in the ruling and opposition parties and parliamentary consultative bodies, which have been proposed by medical organizations such as the Korean Medical Association.

However, it is analyzed that this measure will allow some doctors' groups to participate in the consultative body, but it is difficult to expect a dramatic change in which students return in large numbers or doctors change their minds.

In fact, Kang Hee-kyung, a professor at Seoul National University of Medicine, said, "I think the government has acknowledged taking a leave of absence for fear of legal disputes," adding that this will not give students a momentum to return.

In addition, the internal strife within the Medical Association, a major pillar of the medical community, is also expected to act as a variable in the parliamentary conflict situation.

The Council of Representatives yesterday decided to vote on the 10th of next month after proposing the impeachment of Chairman Lim Hyun-taek for reasons such as dogmatism and rude talk.
