Police have launched an investigation after a series of incidents in which expensive foreign rental cars are rented and the location tracking device is stolen from all over the country.
Incheon Michuhol Police Station arrested a man in his 20s on charges of stealing 300 million won worth of foreign cars from a rental car company in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, on the 25th of last month and is chasing an accomplice.
Cheonan Dongnam Police Station in South Chungcheong Province is also investigating whether there is an accomplice who helped Mr. B in September on charges of renting a foreign car in Majang-dong, Seoul, removing the location tracking device and selling it.
The last locations of the affected vehicles being investigated by police stations in Incheon and Chungnam were all confirmed near Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, and one of them was barely found by the victim after a search.
Earlier, Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province also arrested and arrested a man in his 40s on charges of handing over borrowed foreign cars to an overseas smuggling broker and sent them to the prosecution.
Amid a recent series of similar car rental thefts, the possibility that the same group committed the crime is raised, and attention is being paid to whether the police will merge the cases and investigate them collectively.
